Re: scrimmages tonight...
becouse EVERY time that I can rember that a Multi year starter at QB has been replaced the 1st year for the new guy has been rocky.
I was looking for them to use there QB as an extra RB this season and limit the passing game......If they have not lost anything at the QB position (something that i still am not sure about) they should be ever bit as tough as last season (if not better)

Re: scrimmages tonight...
it was north green.....nortons second string gives them more competition in practice....dont look too deep into this scrimmage

Well silly me, I would have thought that a QB with what, some 40+ varsity games of experience might just be a bit tough to replace for anybody.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
I just thought he meant that the hardly wont be passing because of a new QB, I said his shoes are nearly impossible to fill but like I said again both could do the job well
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Yes both could do the job well, or both could turn into the Norton version of Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith. Logically that is a question mark and it won't be answered till not only games are played but the players are put into a situation where they have to make plays. That's what made Stewart so good, it wasn't just that he could make plays, it was that he didn't make mistakes.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
You're exactly right, time will tell I guess.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Im not sure if anyone really knows but why if you are coach adams would you even scrimmage a team that you know will not be able to put up a fight. The point of scrimmages are to look at your players and run plays and see what and which personel packages are going to work. You cant get a fair evaluation of your players if you play bad competition.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Well it depends. Sometimes its just hard to find quality opponents for scrimmages, but at times it doesn't matter too much who you scrimmage since you may want to rotate in and out a ton of players to get a look at them.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Maybe it was the other way around. Maybe North Green wanted to scrimmage a tough team for the sake of experience?
-

the raiders schedule is loaded with non-district patsies except for gate city. they need to play better teams not teams like north greene.

Re: scrimmages tonight...
Or perhaps the two coaches know one another and was maybe doing the other a favor, maybe he lost a card game and had too, nobody knows but Jimbo and his staff, or possibly those close to him. So give it a rest, who cares!
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
All im saying is that the teams scrimmages are too prepare the schools for the regular season and the regular season is to prepare a team for the playoffs. So unless the two coaches know each other then there would be no other reason. No reason to get your panties in a bunch just simply making a comment.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
why not face a weak team in the first scrimmage to work on your execution, then play a tougher team in the 2nd scrimmage?
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
No panties in a wad I just think it is hilarious that people are already downing teams because of who they scrimmaged first. It is pretty stupid. The first scrimmage is nothing more than a glorified practice and means nothing.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
then you should down the same fans that brag about the first scrimmages
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Scrimmages really don't mean anything anyway. It's a chance to play a lot of people and try a lot of different looks. How many times have you saw a team look good in preseason and stink during the season or visa versa. In less than 2 weeks we get down to the nitty gritty.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Just look at the college teams they schedule cupcakes for their first game.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
But regular season and scrimmages are a bit different. One counts, one doesn't. Plus college teams don't scrimmage each other they intra squad.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Teams schedule weaker teams for many reasons but how many times do teams play poor schedules in the regular season and get to the playoffs and find themselves in a tough game and not know how to react because they havnt played any good teams. I am not trying to speak harshly of anybody in Burtons program just making statements.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
well for clintwoods sake they did scrimmage a weak team imo but their schedule is pretty rough

They are, but a guy I work with who graduated from Honaker just a few years ago and who's cousin happens to be Logan Ball, told me that he expects them to win 3-4 games, tops. His thoughts on them were that they have a lot of youthful talent, but that's the problem--it's all young right now...no upper classmen to really fill the voids left by the departing class.
And even with that aforementioned departing class, Clintwood drubbed Honaker in that charity preseason game last year and didn't break too much of a sweat doing it--and as we all know by now--Clintwood lost next to nothing off last year's team. Stranger things have happened, and I do expect Honaker to put more quality talent out there than Battle did, but I expect this week to not be much different from last week for Clintwood.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
I work with some Honaker folks and they are filling good about there team and have said that with the exception of Ball they should be better at every position this season.
IMHO Honaker will win the BDD and at least half there other games
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
God I know I shouldn't be commenting on another district in the LPD FORUM, but I recentley spoke to a coach from Haysi who said several interesting things:
1. They're loaded
2. They're going to win the BDD
3.Saving the best for last-They WANT Clintwood.
Number 3-hmmm be careful what you ask for.......
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
August 29 they will get Clintwood.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
Haysi always wants Clintwood and vice versa
And it will be a tough game, it always is no matter really who is good or who is down or whatever.
It's at Haysi, which makes it that much tougher.
-
Re: scrimmages tonight...
I wouldnt say that clintwood drubbed honaker last year if I remember right Ball fumbeled in the read zone twice if you add those as touchdowns it would have been close
honaker should be solid
haysi vs clintwood will be a better game than most think if you take away Robinsons long run and a few dropped passes by haysi it was a close game last year
I know thats a lot of ifs
Im not tryin to knock clintwood because they are a very good team but everyone is handing them the LPD + Reg D titles lets remember they were 6-4 last year they should be better this year but they need to stay focused and stay on track
haysi PV JIB and lebanon are all capeable of beating them

Those were forced fumbles--he just didn't run to the 10 and drop the football...he got hit both times he fumbled. C. Robinson & Robbins had a field day in the running game against them last season, wasn't too hard to do what they wanted to do.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">honaker should be solid </div></div>
I hope they are--it makes things more interesting if they are...I was just putting out there what I had heard on them.

Truth. Dennis Green does not need to yell at us to "crown them" yet.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">haysi PV JIB and lebanon are all capeable of beating them

Anyone's capable of beating anybody on any given night. Personally, I think they'll beat Haysi (and as most know, I have fam in Haysi so I'm not just being a hater). PV, JIB, Lebanon, and GC all will be tough games for Clintwood, as will Volunteer though they lost a lot of kids to graduation--the good part is, only PV out of that group is on the road...the rest are at Clintwood. In the regular season last year, they were 6-0 at home. On the road, 1-4. That's very important.

I counted the home game vs. Appy in the 1st round of the playoffs. To be clear--regular season, they were 5-0 at home, 1-4 on the road....including playoffs, 6-0 at home, 1-4 on the road.

No I mean the the two Burton QB's passed for 7 of the TD's and the rest were scored from the jet sweep running plays.
